World’s first 2TB microSD card is here, Kioxia Exceria Plus G2 2TB

Kioxia has announced the Exceria Plus G2 2TB microSD card. This is the world’s first microSD card (from a reputed brand) with a 2TB capacity. The company had revealed the prototype of this product in September 2022. Kioxia has also announced that it has started the mass production of the new microSD card. The brand says that the Exceria Plus G2 2TB will go on sale in the next quarter. However, Kioxia has not revealed in which regions it will sell the new microSD card or what price tag it will put on the product.

No other well-known brand, including Samsung and Sandisk, offers a microSD card with a 2TB capacity. The microSD with the highest capacity that you can purchase at the moment comes from Micron, which offers a 1.5TB capacity and usually sells above USD 450. You might have seen listings of 2TB microSD cards on online shopping platforms like AliExpress and Amazon but almost all those products are fake. Usually, sellers modify those storage drives to report a wrong memory capacity.

That being said, some of those Chinese products could have a 2TB capacity. But there’s no solid information on the matter. That’s probably why Kioxia hasn’t claimed that the Exceria Plus G2 2TB is the world’s first microSD card with a 2TB capacity. Kioxia is one of the lesser-known brands when it comes to memory products, and that’s because it was established only a few years ago (in 2018). But don’t let it make you think that Kioxia is a newbie. This company was spun off from Toshiba Memory Corporation.

Kioxia Exceria Plus G2 2TB microSD card specifications

Coming to the specifications of the Exceria Plus G2 2TB microSD card, it is a UHS-I storage drive featuring UHS Speed Class 3 (U3), Video Speed Class 30 (V30), and Application Class 1 (A1) ratings. Kioxia claims that it has a read speed of up to 100 MB/s and a write speed of up to 90MB/s. According to the company, it manufactures this storage drive by “stacking sixteen 1 terabit dies of 3D flash memory.” Kioxia has been able to achieve this result “while maintaining the specification’s maximum thickness of 0.8 mm.

These new, enhanced cards can become a sought-after option by many smartphone owners, content creators, dashcam and video bloggers, and on-the-go gamers alike. We are pleased to offer extra performance and capacity through these new EXCERIA PLUS G2 2TB microSDXC cards,” says Jamie Stitt, General Manager B2C Sales & Marketing, KIOXIA Europe GmbH. Considering that the brand has published press releases regarding the product in Europe and Singapore, expect it to go on sale in those regions.
