In November 2024, Walt Disney and Reliance Industries merged their Indian media assets (Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema). Now, after three months, the effect of the merger has finally taken place. The two companies have merged their separate apps for various platforms into JioHotstar, and it is now available on Samsung TVs (Tizen OS) as well.
On 14 February 2025, Star India Private Limited pushed an update to the Disney+ Hotstar app for Samsung TVs. It changed the app’s version to 1.6,9, updated the branding, including the icon, to JioHotstar, and brought content from JioCinema (it now offers content from Disney+ Hotstar as well as JioCinema). When we opened the new version of the app, it displayed a message about the merger as well. You can check out the new look in the image below.
People who have Disney+ Hotstar subscription will now be able to watch content from JioCinema as well. Likewise, people who have JioCinema subscription will now be able to watch content fr on Disney+ Hotstar. After their membership ends, they will have to subscribe to JioHotstar to watch content on the platform. They can choose from three plans: Mobile, Super, and Premium. You can check out their monthly and yearly prices in the image below.
People who don’t have either subscription but want to watch content on JioHotstar will be able to watch it for free or by subscribing to it. If they watch it for free, the platform will show them advertisements. If they watch it by subscribing to Mobile and Super, it will show them fewer ads, and if they watch it by subscribing to Premium, it will not show any ads.
