2026 will be an interesting year for foldable smartphones. Apple is reportedly set to launch its first foldable smartphone, tentatively called the iPhone Ultra, in September. Samsung, meanwhile, is expected to unveil two new book-style foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, later this month. And the iPhone Ultra could have a bigger battery than the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

iPhone Ultra's battery capacity has been revealed

Tipster Digital Chat Station claims that the iPhone Ultra uses a dual-cell battery with rated capacities of 1,921mAh and 2,962mAh, respectively, for a combined rated capacity of 4,883mAh.

Based on information leaked so far, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to feature a battery with a typical capacity of 4,800mAh. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, on the other hand, is rumored to have a battery with a typical capacity of 5,000mAh.

That means the iPhone Ultra’s rated battery capacity is higher than the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s typical battery capacity and is close to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s typical battery capacity. This comparison is worth noting because Apple reports rated battery capacity, while Samsung advertises typical battery capacity.

Moreover, Apple has consistently managed to deliver longer battery life from batteries of similar capacity than most Android phone makers, thanks to its tight hardware and software integration. So, the iPhone Ultra could last longer on a single charge than both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Unless Samsung makes significant software optimization improvements, it could have a hard time matching the iPhone Ultra’s battery life.
