The Threads app allows users to post updates with up to 500 characters of text, along with up to 10 images or videos. The updates posted on Threads can be shared on Instagram and vice versa. Each post is called a Thread, and you can create a series of linked posts, similar to Twitter. Other users can like or comment on a post and reshare it with their followers. Threads can also be shared with other apps and platforms.
You can now install it on your Samsung smartphone or tablet via the Google Play Store.
This new app offers various privacy and security options, including keeping a user's profile private. Users can also filter out specific words so that they won't see posts containing those filter words. People can follow, restrict, block, or even report others. Users can also set permissions for who can reply to their updates: Anymore, People They Follow, and Mentioned Only.
Threads is being seen as a “Twitter killer.” Since being taken over by billionaire Elon Musk, Twitter has seen its fair share of missteps, forcing people to seek out other social media apps, including Mastodon, Bluesky, and Threads. Instagram has announced that Threads will soon be compatible with the ActivityPub protocol, making it work with Mastodon and other similar apps.
