Under Meta, Instagram and WhatsApp have started to grow faster, as they now have more resources to add more features that users have requested. Over the past few years, both apps have added dozens of new features; sometimes, they can also get over the top. One such new feature is currently being tested for Instagram.

Instagram is now testing a new feature called Flipside (via Engadget). This is a bit similar to Close Friends, which is already available for everyone. It lets you share some content on your profile with only a few people that you've chosen. The description of the Flipside feature explains that only the people you choose can see this side of your profile and what you share there. You can swipe down on your profile icon to view Flipside, which could be a handy gesture.

It is clear that you don't need to make a separate Instagram account when you use the Flipside feature. Instead, the photos and videos that you share on Flipside will be visible (along with your regular photos and videos) only to those to whom you have granted access. Close Friends is a similar feature, but it only shows your Instagram stories to your close friends while hiding them from your other followers.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that the company isn't sure if it will actually release this feature to the public. He said, “We're not even sure we'll launch it on Instagram. On the one hand, it feels good to create a clear space that feels more private. On the other, it's yet another way to reach a smaller audience on top of secondary accounts and Close Friends. We'll see how people respond in the test and iterate forward.
