There were rumors over the past few months that the company might be launching a new clamshell foldable in the near future. An official announcement has now arrived, with the company confirming that it will unveil the Huawei Pocket 2 later this week.
The new device is the successor to the Huawei Pocket S that was launched back in November 2022. Market data shows that it's the most popular clamshell foldable smartphone in China. That's not surprising, given that Samsung's market share is below 1% in the country, and its foldables haven't found any real traction there.
The Huawei Pocket 2 is being unveiled on February 22. There aren't a lot of details available about the device so far but leaks have suggested that its design will be similar to that of its predecessor. Huawei takes a different approach to its clamshell foldable's design, opting for two circular cutouts on the front panel, one for the circular cover display and the other for the cameras.
It's unclear what the specs of this new phone are but given that Huawei positions this lineup in the flagship segment, it will likely have the high-end Kirin 9000S 5G chipset that the company has also used in other flagship products.
With the official event merely three days away, it remains to be seen if Huawei will reveal more information about the device prior to the official launch, or we'll just have to wait and see what it comes out with on Thursday.
