In a video Samsung posted earlier today, the company offers a glimpse into the processes of testing the build quality of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. The video shows how Samsung has put the two new foldable phones through folding tests, tumble tests, water-resistance tests, environmental chamber tests, drop tests, S Pen drawing tests, and steel ball drop tests.
Samsung used a similar hinge for all its previous foldable phones. This year, it switched to a new Flex Hinge. Its waterdrop design allows the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 to fold shut without leaving a gap and contributes to making the devices thinner and lighter.

Interestingly, the fine print accompanying the official reliability video from Samsung states that Bureau Veritas, which is a French company specializing in testing, inspection, and certification, tested and certified the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 for 200,000 folds at room temperature (25 degrees Celsius / 77 degrees Fahrenheit).
The company also put its two new foldable phones to rigorous tests designed to determine the reliability of not only the hinge but the integrity of the Armor Aluminum frame and the foldable displays, which now boast an additional shock dispersion layer. Samsung also sprayed and submerged the phones in water to test their IPX8 rating.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 are now available for pre-order online from Samsung, and they'll start shipping to customers on August 11. Pre-order bonuses include a free memory upgrade from 256GB to 512GB and Care+ discounts in select markets.
