A larger cover display had been a longstanding demand of Galaxy Z Flip customers. The previous iterations had tiny panels and while they were fine for notifications, you couldn't get anything meaningful done. This meant that the device had to be unfolded every single time.

Samsung has listened to those customers and equipped the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a larger cover display that it calls Flex Window. The hardware alone isn't going to deliver an elevated user experience. The company understands that which is why it has complemented the larger display with Flex Window Widgets.

    Story continues after the video

How Flex Window Widgets help you make the most of your time

Samsung developed the Flex Window Widgets with a singular goal in mind: Make it possible for users to complete essential tasks without having to unfold their Galaxy Z Flip 5. This delivers two distinct benefits. Firstly, it improves the user experience by requiring fewer folds and unfolds. This also helps improve durability as the hinge would go through fewer cycles, though as tests have shown, the Galaxy Z Flip 5's hinge is seemingly indestructible.

There are a wide variety of widgets that you can access using the Flex Window. They let you do everything from controlling the media and SmartThings devices to checking your calendar, messages, daily activity, and more. You can pull up a full-fledged keyword and write proper replies to texts and emails which is definitely a lifesaver.

The usability of these widgets doesn't stop here. Samsung has also worked to ensure compatibility with major third-party apps, including Google Maps, YouTube, and Netflix. It's so convenient to look up places and get directions from the cover display. While the size isn't ideal for content consumption, it's also great for a quick YouTube video. There will be more third-party apps that eventually support the Flex Window Widgets, thereby improving the usability of the larger cover display even more.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a generous mix of these meaningful improvements that go a long way in helping users maximize their time and efficiency. If you'd like to pick one up, go ahead and pre-order the Galaxy Z Flip 5 before August 11 to take advantage of the best deals.
