One UI 8 contains files confirming Samsung's tri-fold phone

Samsung already hinted at the possibility that we might finally see the first Galaxy tri-fold phone in action at Unpacked next week. Now, that possibility seems higher than ever. Animation files hidden in the latest One UI 8 build (via Android Authority) reveal what Samsung's tri-fold phone looks like.

The animation files in One UI 8 pertain to NFC connectivity and confirm the phone's shape. Based on what we can see in One UI 8, Samsung's first tri-fold phone has two hinges and folds inward in a G shape — which explains why it was tentatively named Galaxy G Fold before.

Speaking of the name, Samsung's One UI 8 firmware refers to this phone as “Multifold 7,” but that could be a codename. For now, we'll refer to the device as the Galaxy G Fold.

As for what it looks like, the Galaxy G Fold resembles one Z Fold and a half. When unfolded and viewed from the back, the cover screen sits in the middle section, and the primary cameras reside on the leftmost section. The rightmost section of the phone is plain.

The One UI 8 animation files don't reveal much about the other side of the device, where the foldable magic happens, except that the foldable panel has an Infinity-O cutout.

Interestingly enough, One UI 8 also contains animation files instructing users how not to fold the Galaxy G Fold. Because the phone folds inward twice, one of the hinges is wider.

As such, there is a strict order of operation to close the phone correctly. Future Galaxy G Fold owners will have to remember to fold the left side (rightmost when viewed from the back) first.

Samsung may unveil the Galaxy G Fold at Unpacked next week, but the G Fold won't be the only device at the event. Samsung has a lot more to show, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and a new series of Galaxy Watches.
