Samsung Electronics subsidiary HARMAN will soon add another audio company to its portfolio. HARMAN International's professional sound system arm, HARMAN Professional Solutions, has confirmed in a press release this week that it decided to buy FLUX Software Engineering.

FLUX is a French-based audio software company with “roots in the 1990s during the early days of digital audio software workstations.” HARMAN says the acquisition of Flux will broaden its offerings with world-class immersive technology.

Once the acquisition goes through, HARMAN gets FLUX's “immersive, processing, and analysis solutions across live production, installation sound, content creation, and post-production.”

Founded in 2006, FLUX is well known for digital products, including:

    • FLUX:: SPAT Revolution: An object-based and perceptual immersive mixing solution.
    • FLUX:: Analyzer: A modular RTA system offering an extensive range of analyzer options.
    • FLUX:: Processing: A suite of plugins such as equalizers, channel strips, dynamic processing, and more.

    Harman's brand portfolio gets bigger

HARMAN Professional Studios is Harman International's arm that specializes in engineering and manufacturing professional audio, lighting, and video products for entertainment and enterprise markets.

The cost of this acquisition of FLUX hasn't been disclosed. Nevertheless, FLUX will join HARMAN Professional Studios' already rich portfolio, which consists of leading brands like JBL Professional, AKG, Martin, AMX, Soundcraft, BSS Audio, Crown, dbx Professional, and Lexicon Pro.

In response to the acquisition by HARMAN, FLUX Founder and CEO said that the integration of FLUX software with HARMAN brands leads to new opportunities, not only for touring applications but audio installations where spatial audio plays an important role.
