It took four years, but Galaxy S22 users in Korea seemingly won.

The Game Optimizing Service (GOS) saga, which began with the Galaxy S22 series, appears to have finally come to an end after four years. Korean news outlets report that the Seoul High Court ended the dispute last month by ordering Samsung to compensate affected Galaxy S22 users.
In case you missed it, the controversy started in early 2022 when Galaxy S22 users discovered their phones shipped with a Game Optimizing Service (GOS) that couldn’t initially be turned off.
GOS was designed to throttle CPU and GPU performance across more than a thousand apps to prevent overheating on Samsung’s 2022 flagships.
Users pushed back over Samsung’s lack of transparency. The situation escalated further when it emerged that GOS did not limit performance during popular benchmark tests. S22 users felt like they were being lied to.
In response, 1,882 consumers filed a class-action lawsuit in Korea, with the trial kicking off in March 2022.
In the initial ruling, the Seoul court said Samsung’s advertising wasn’t entirely truthful and may have misled consumers. However, the court stopped short of awarding compensation.
The plaintiffs didn't want to take no for an answer. They appealed, with hearings taking place in December 2025.
The court then recommended mediation. And after three failed sessions, during which the parties couldn't come to an agreement, the court stepped in and enforced a final solution. Samsung will pay up.
Originally, Galaxy S22 users sought 300,000 won ($200) each. It’s unclear whether that full amount will be paid, but the court ultimately ordered Samsung to compensate the plaintiffs, bringing the case to a close after four years.
