A new feature for the popular web browser, Google Chrome for desktop, is ready. As per a new blog, Google has announced a new ‘Help me write' feature for Google Chrome for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It is a similar feature to what we already have on other Google products such as Google Messages, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Keep, and more.

The Google Chrome ‘Help me write' AI writing assistant will pop up wherever users type into the typing field and help them complete sentences. According to 9To5Google, Google refers to this feature as ‘Compose' or ‘CCO' but for Google Chrome desktops, it will come with ‘Help me write' branding. Do note that the ‘Help me write' feature won't be available for Chromebooks.

The ‘Help me write' feature is hidden behind Chrome flags

When typing a text in the field, a ‘Help me write' autofill option will appear, and it can be accessed from the right-click menu. Just like other platforms, Google Chrome ‘Help me write' will help you get more context on what to write. As per the report, the Google Chrome ‘Help me write' feature will let users change the writing style of the AI but may have fewer options than in Docs or Messages. You will be able to ask the AI to shorten, elaborate, or ask the AI to write something in a casual or formal style.

As of now, the Google Chrome AI writing feature is hidden behind two flags in chrome://flags but it's unclear when it will be possible to use the feature normally within the browser. In short, the AI writing assistance feature is still under development, and we don't expect it to go live sooner than Chrome 122, which is set for a February 2024 release.
