It will replace Google Assistant, which is the current digital assistant on Android Auto on Galaxy phones.

Over the past year, Google has slowly replaced Google Assistant with Gemini as the default AI assistant on Android phones and tablets. One UI 7 even lets Galaxy devices summon Gemini by long pressing the side button. Now that Gemini has arrived on Galaxy phones, it will soon replace Google Assistant in Android Auto as well.
While Google already said it will replace Google Assistant with Gemini on Android Auto and Android Automotive, the change hasn't arrived yet. However, the company has started erasing signs of Google Assistant from Android Auto, and the first signs were recently discovered by Android Authority.
In version 14.8.152744 of the Android Auto app for Android devices, Google has removed the name ‘Google Assistant' and is calling the same setting ‘Manage your digital assistant.' You can see this change in the screenshots attached below.

While tapping the new option still opens Google Assistant, it is clear that the company is slowly making branding changes, and once it is done preparing all the required changes, it could just make a server-side change to replace Google Assistant with Gemini on Android Auto.
Google has also replaced Google Assistant with Gemini on Galaxy Chromebooks. Soon, Gemini will arrive on Galaxy Watches as well with the One UI 8 Watch update. One year ago, Google Assistant was removed from Samsung's smart TV lineup.
