Watch the Galaxy Z Fold 3 go through a torture test in a new video

The Galaxy Z Fold 3, which was unveiled last month, has started reaching buyers in a few countries. The new foldable phone promises an 80% stronger body, a brighter and stronger display, and an IPX8 rating for water resistance. We have already reviewed the smartphone and found it to be more durable than its predecessor. A new video has now emerged that shows the Galaxy Z Fold 3's durability through extreme torture tests.

YouTuber JerryRigEverything has put the Galaxy Z Fold 3 through its paces. The 12-minute-long video shows Samsung's new foldable getting scratched and covered in dust. The cover display, which is protected using Gorilla Glass Victus, shows scratches on level 6 on Moh's hardness scale. It means that the outer display won't get any major scratches when rubbed against keys or coins in the pocket. The camera lenses, covered by Gorilla Glass DX, are surprisingly scratch-resistant.

The internal display is stronger than last year, but it still gets scratched on Moh's level 2. It means that all those warnings from Samsung are useful. It is better not to use fingernails or an unsupported S Pen on the Galaxy Z Fold 3's internal display. When dirt is poured all over the foldable display, it shows fine scratches. Pressing the phone's internal display using the S Pen Fold Edition doesn't leave any mark, which is good to see. The S Pen can be easily snapped in two parts, though.

Even though the phone isn't dirt-resistant, the hinge doesn't seem to be affected by dirt and works perfectly fine in the video. However, it is still best to keep it away from dirt and sand. The phone's screens also go through a burn test, which seems irrelevant in everyday use.

The phone's aluminum body is pretty tough, and when scratched using a cutter, it only shows superficial damage. The side-mounted fingerprint reader is similarly strong. Moreover, the YouTuber could not snap the phone's back on its hinge and crack open the device. This shows that the Galaxy Z Fold 3's body is stronger than some candy bar-shaped phones like the ASUS ROG Phone 5. That's a great sign for anyone wanting to buy the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
