Samsung is rolling out an update that brings the August 2024 security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Fold 4, and Fold 5 this week. The Fold 6, meanwhile, is on the June or July security patch depending on the market.
The US appears to be the first market where this update is available. It is out for unlocked Fold 4 and Fold 5 units and some carrier-locked Fold 3 variants. The Galaxy Z Fold 3, Fold 4, and Fold 5 updates are identifiable by, respectively, the build numbers F926USQS7IXG6, F936U1UES6FXGJ, and F946U1UES4CXG6.
The August security update is an important one. It fixes a critical vulnerability—CVE-2024-32896—that attackers could exploit to bypass security and gain elevated privileges on a device. This vulnerability was initially believed to affect only Pixel devices, but Samsung later confirmed that Galaxy devices are at risk as well.
It's unclear if Samsung delayed the One UI 6.1.1 update for eligible devices so it could first get the critical security fix out to users. We still expect One UI 6.1.1 to start rolling out sometime this month, though we wouldn't rule out a delay to September.
If you own any of the mentioned Galaxy Z Fold models in the US, you can download the update from the phone's Settings » Software update menu. You can also upgrade your phone using a Windows PC. To do that, download the latest firmware for your model from our archives and follow the instructions.
