When Samsung unveiled its latest foldable phones last week, people called out the company for bringing the most boring Galaxy Z updates ever. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a massive cover display, but the Galaxy Z Fold 5 truly appears boring on paper. However, the two phones have many internal improvements, including a new hinge and a new processor. They also seem to have impressively long battery life.

A new video put the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 through a battery life test. And they performed like champions, at least with respect to their relatively small capacity batteries. Both phones lasted longer than some slab-style phones with much higher capacity batteries.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 battery life is impressively long

The Galaxy Z Flip 5, which has a 3,700mAh battery, lasted longer than the Pixel 7 Pro with a 5,000mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, which has a much bigger screen (7.6-inch) and is powered by a 4,400mAh battery, lasted longer than the OnePlus 11. The OnePlus 11 has a 6.7-inch screen, the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, and a 5,000mAh battery.

The battery test took the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 5, iPhone 14 Pro Max, OnePlus 11, Pixel 7 Pro, and the Xiaomi 13 Ultra through 2.5 hours of heavy gaming, 3 hours-long of video streaming on YouTube, social media browsing for 1.5 hours, and web browsing for 1.5 hours. The test also included recording 4K 60fps video using the primary rear cameras. The batteries on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 were out of juice a few minutes after starting the video recording test, but the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 14 Pro Max went on to record a 1.5-hour-long video.

    • Pixel 7 Pro: 9 hours 7 minutes
    • Galaxy Z Flip 5: 9 hours 16 minutes
    • OnePlus 11: 9 hours 22 minutes
    • Galaxy Z Fold 5: 9 hours 48 minutes
    • Xiaomi 13 Ultra: 10 hours 25 minutes
    • Galaxy S23 Ultra: 10 hours 50 minutes
    • iPhone 14 Pro Max: 11 hours 19 minutes

This test shows that while Samsung hasn't equipped its new foldable phones with batteries as big as some foldable phones from Chinese brands, it has done a great job with optimization, with the new Snapdragon chip lending a hand as well.
