Last month we learned two interesting facts about the Galaxy Z Flip 5's dual-battery configuration. Firstly, these newer batteries feature pull tabs, which makes them easier to replace. They will no longer be hard-clued into place without a convenient way to be removed from the phone.
The second big change we talked about last month is that the Galaxy Z Flip 5's secondary battery has a lower rated capacity than the Z Flip 4's secondary unit. And now, more specifications have emerged from regulatory agencies (via Galaxy Club), giving us a clearer picture of the upcoming foldable phone's dual-battery configuration.
Regulatory documents reveal that the Galaxy Z Flip 5's smaller battery, product code EB-BF731ABY, has a rated capacity of 971mAh. Furthermore, the larger battery, model number EB-BF733ABY, has a rated capacity of 2,620mAh. This brings the total rated battery capacity up to 3,591mAh.
In contrast, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a similar 3,595mAh total rated battery capacity, but it's distributed differently between the two units. The smaller battery is larger at 1,040mAh, while the large battery is slightly smaller, clocking in at a rated capacity of 2,555mAh.
As far as the consumer market is concerned, both phones will most likely be described as having a typical battery capacity rounded up to 3,700mAh. And as a result, any battery gains posted by the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 will likely be the result of the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and better optimization.
Samsung is rumored to plan on unveiling the Galaxy Z Flip 5 earlier than usual, in late July rather than early August. The larger Galaxy Z Fold 5 will accompany the flip phone on stage at Unpacked.
