Samsung has released the Android 17-based One UI 9.0 update for the Galaxy XCover 7, the rugged smartphone it launched in 2024. This marks the device's third major Android OS upgrade. The rollout has kicked off in Asia and should expand to other regions soon.
The One UI 9.0 update for the Galaxy XCover 7 carries firmware version G556BXXUJFZJC and is currently available in Malaysia. Other countries across Asia should receive the update in the coming days. Notably, this release does not bundle the November 2026 security patch.
If you live in Malaysia and own a Galaxy XCover 7, you can check for the update manually. Open the Settings app on your phone, navigate to Software update, and tap Check for updates. Because major OS upgrades have a large download size, be sure to connect to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading.
Additionally, make sure your phone has at least 30% battery remaining before starting the installation. Once the download finishes, tap Restart now when prompted.
Beyond Android 17 and its core platform upgrades, One UI 9.0 introduces several new customization options. These include additional font styles for the lock screen clock widget and more flexibility for the Quick Panel layout customization.
The update also adds a dedicated ‘Warranty and care' section inside the Settings app, provides clearer transparency around app location access, and offers quicker access to Lockdown Mode. Finally, Bixby gains improved natural language processing, conversational context, and full chat thread history.
