We have been hearing about Samsung working on implementing noninvasive optical blood glucose monitoring on Galaxy Watches for quite some time now. After failed deadlines, it seemed like we wouldn't see the technology arrive anytime soon. Well, our hopes are up once again as Samsung might have finally made significant progress in its development.

On Thursday, Samsung held the Galaxy Tech Forum in San Jose, California. At the event, Samsung’s Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team at Mobile eXperience Business, Dr. Hon Pak, saidWhat I’m really excited about is our team, as you may have assumed, we are working on a non-invasive optically-based continuous glucose monitor. I can’t tell you the time [of the launch], but I’m very excited about the progress we are making, and this, if we do it right, will be a game-changer.

The story continues after the video…

Going by his statement, it looks like the company is almost done with the development of noninvasive optical blood glucose monitoring. This means that we could soon see it on Galaxy Watches, which will allow people to monitor their blood glucose levels without needles. That will especially be great for people with diabetes who have to check their blood glucose levels quite frequently. Unfortunately, there’s still no information if it will be ready in time for the Galaxy Watch 8.

If Samsung brings this technology to the market before every other brand, it would increase the sales of Galaxy Watches drastically as many people will buy it just for the convince of measuring blood glucose levels without needles. Apple is also working on implementing the same thing on Apple Watches. It will be interesting to see who wins the race.
