Samsung has made it possible for the Galaxy Watch to support the management of heat stress for outdoor workers, who are particularly vulnerable to summer heat waves.

The company has worked on the thermal stress management system in collaboration with South Korea's Ministry of Employment and Labor for businesses that have deployed the Galaxy Watch.

Rest advisory can be sent directly to the outdoor worker

Samsung has worked on this capability to reflect the ministry's heat wave response guidelines in accordance with its industrial safety policy to predict the heat stress risk of workers in advance.

The solution provides outdoor workers with personalized heat stress prevention capabilities by integrating and analyzing environmental information. This includes on-site temperature, humidity, and biological data such as the workers' heart rate and activity measured by the Galaxy Watch.

When there's an elevated risk of heat stress, a notification is automatically displayed on the manager's dashboard for necessary prevention measures based on the step-by-step work suspension standard.

For example, if the perceived temperature is over 33 degrees centigrade, a heat wave warning is provided. The manager can then send a rest advisory notification to the Galaxy Watch worn by the outdoor worker.

This system is currently being used to manage heat stress for workers at the construction site for Samsung's new semiconductor production line at its Pyeongtaek campus. Samsung plans to develop this as a wearable industrial safety model that other organizations may also use to support the safety of outdoor workers in the summer.
