Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro can stay on while swapping batteries

Samsung has just announced its latest ruggedized tablet, the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro, replacing the 2022 model with a sequel that brings significant upgrades across different areas. One such upgrade consists of a beefier 10,100mAh battery that is not just user-replaceable but boasts Dual Hot-Swap functionality.

Dual Hot-Swap technology allows users to replace the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro battery without powering off the tablet, as long as they have an extra replaceable battery and the official POGO charging dock. Samsung will sell them separately.

This Dual Hot Swap feature is a massive perk for enterprise users, as it minimizes downtime and lets them continue operating the tablet efficiently and productively.

The chances of this kind of feature coming to other non-rugged Galaxy devices are slim to none. Regular Galaxy tablets don't have user-removable batteries in the first place, and they may never have.

Still, it's great to see that Samsung is thinking outside the box and can innovate and develop solutions for different needs. The rugged tablet market is on the rise. Citing VDC Research, Samsung says that the rugged tablet market may hit 1.89 million units by 2028.

Because rugged tablets are reliable, durable, and offer seamless operation, they are now becoming a feasible option not just for enterprise customers but for government, logistics, manufacturing, and healthcare segments.

Samsung will release the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro in June. During today's announcement, the company also unveiled the Galaxy XCover 7 Pro rugged smartphone, which will hit the market a month earlier on May 8.
