The Galaxy SmartTag 3 works with iPhones, too

Samsung has just launched the Galaxy SmartTag 3, its latest and most premium location tracker yet. While it brings several hardware improvements over the Galaxy SmartTag 2, one of the biggest upgrades the new model offers over the old ones is support for Apple iPhones.

Since Samsung’s first location tracker, the Galaxy SmartTag, none of the brand's trackers have been compatible with iOS. It meant that iPhone users couldn’t set up or use Samsung’s trackers with their smartphones.

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 changes that. Alongside the new tracker, Samsung is introducing a way for iPhone users to use their iPhones to locate the tracker. This may be possible through the SmartThings app, but the South Korean firm hasn't clarified that yet.

This change makes the Galaxy SmartTag 3 more useful for families and groups that use a mix of Android and iOS devices. An Android user can use the SmartTag 3 while an iPhone user can also track it from their device, eliminating one of the biggest limitations of Samsung’s previous trackers.

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 also has an advantage over Apple’s AirTag in this regard. While the AirTag is designed for use within Apple’s ecosystem, Samsung’s latest tracker can now be used with both Android and iOS devices. That makes the SmartTag 3 a more versatile option for homes where people use smartphones from different platforms.
