Samsung's original Galaxy SmartTag didn't have UWB connectivity and could last up to 300 days on a single coin cell battery. The UWB-enabled SmartTag+ was more power-hungry than the Bluetooth-only model and could stay on for up to 165 days before needing a battery replacement.
The new Galaxy SmartTag 2 combines Bluetooth and UWB connectivity. And despite this upgrade, it offers way more battery life than the original models, partly thanks to a brand-new Power Saving Mode Samsung added to the device.

Samsung has introduced a new Power Saving Mode to its SmartTag 2, designed for users who need to track items continually and hope for low energy consumption.
The company says that the Galaxy SmartTag 2 can last up to 700 days in Power Saving Mode, more than doubling and quadrupling the autonomy of the original Bluetooth and UWB models.
Even in Normal Mode, i.e., when Power Saving Mode is disabled, the Galaxy SmartTag 2 can last up to 500 days on a new charge. That is a huge quality-of-life improvement for Galaxy SmartTag 2 buyers, and these advancements can potentially reduce waste.
