The Galaxy S27 Ultra could mark the beginning of the end for the S Pen.

Samsung's decision to remove the S Pen's Bluetooth features with the Galaxy S25 Ultra hurt loyalists, but it also laid bare the possibility that the S Pen may continue to lose importance for Samsung's top flagship phone in the years to come.
A new rumor has emerged which effectively claims that the Galaxy S27 Ultra would be the beginning of the end for the S Pen, as its dedicated slot would be removed from the device.
All Galaxy Note devices had a dedicated slot for the S Pen. When Samsung discontinued the series and folded it into the Galaxy S Ultra, it retained the slot for the stylus, even as the S Pen's features are no longer what they once were.
Tipster @Jukanlosreve has shared a prediction from a “leaker with a solid track record in China” on X, who speculates that Samsung will remove the built-in S Pen starting with the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
This isn't a new idea. Even though the Galaxy Z Fold phones have supported the S Pen for a few years now, they don't have a dedicated slot in the frame for the stylus. It's sold separately for the phones and you can buy a case to store it alongside the device.
Samsung could presumably opt for a similar approach if it decides to do this with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The question then remains, where do things go from there? If one were to hazard a guess, we may see the S Pen being done away for good at some point in the future.
The company's has shifted its focus to slimming down its devices. The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 is proof of that. Reports have suggested that one of the ways Samsung has made the Galaxy Z Fold 7 so slim is by removing the S Pen's digitizer and going the Apple route instead to support stylus input on the display.
Some rumors have even claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may not support the S Pen entirely, much like the slimmer Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition didn't.
