The Galaxy S23 lineup consists of three models: Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. This year, all three models are closer than ever in feature parity. However, there are still some differences between the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23+, and a new leak has revealed those dissimilarities.
What are the differences between Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+?
According to tipster @chunvn8888, the Galaxy S23's cheapest version, which has 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, uses a UFS 3.1 storage chip instead of the UFS 4.0 chip used in all other variants in the Galaxy S23 lineup. UFS 3.1 has half the read and write speed compared to UFS 4.0, which means the 256GB version of the Galaxy S23 will be faster than the 128GB version in booting up, installing and opening apps, and a few other tasks.
The report also claims that the Galaxy S23 features Wi-Fi 6E and not Wi-Fi 7, which is present on the Galaxy S23+ and the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Theoretically, Wi-Fi 7 has 4.8X more bandwidth than Wi-Fi 6E, even though they both have access to 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz radio frequency bands. How well this translates to real-world usage depends on a lot of factors. Moreover, you also need to have a Wi-Fi 7 router to experience Wi-Fi 7 speeds.
A previous report also claimed that the Galaxy S23 lacks UWB that's present in the Galaxy S23+. UWB offers directionality to phones and can be used to lock/unlock cars and smart home locks or to locate lost items using compatible location trackers.
The Galaxy S23 also reportedly features slightly thicker bezels around its screen and has a less advanced vibration motor for notifications. The high-end smartphone also features 25W fast wired charging instead of the 45W fast charging that is available on the Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra. Of course, the Galaxy S23 is smaller (with a smaller 6.1-inch screen) and has a smaller battery (3,900mAh).
What is common between Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+?
All the other features and specifications on the Galaxy S23 remain similar to the Galaxy S23+, including a Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, up to 1,750 nits peak brightness, a 12MP selfie camera, a 50MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 3x optical zoom camera, stereo speakers, and an IP68 rating. They also feature Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and the rear and an Armor Aluminum frame.
They both feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor and 8GB LPDDR5X RAM. The Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23+ also feature 10W wireless charging, 4.5W reverse wireless charging, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, NFC, USB 3.2 Type-C port, Samsung DeX, Samsung Wireless DeX, Samsung Pay, and an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader.
