The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra have lost their monthly update privileges

The Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra have entered the final chapter of their lives. They’ll be turning four years old later this month, and Samsung has just downgraded them to quarterly security updates.

At this point, the S22 series is well past the era of new Android OS releases. On paper, the phones have only four or five security patches and one more One UI upgrade (without changing the Android version) left in the tank.

Samsung’s 2022 flagships already received the January 2026 security patch, which means their next update is technically three months away.

The Galaxy S22 lineup debuted in February 2022 running Android 12, and it has since received all four major OS updates Samsung originally promised.

Right now, the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra are running One UI 8.0. In theory, they should get One UI 8.5 later this year. The latter will certainly be the S22's final One UI upgrade.

If you’re trying to squeeze every last bit of value out of your Galaxy S22, you can realistically keep using it for at least another year. But starting in 2027, Samsung will stop supporting the lineup with new updates altogether.

Alternatively, now might be the moment to think about upgrading, especially if you want to lock in a better trade-in value for your Galaxy S22, S22+, or S22 Ultra. But the longer you wait, the less value these 2022 phones have.

If you decide to upgrade, newer Samsung flagships come with a much stronger support policy, offering seven OS upgrades and seven years of security patches. They also bring better hardware and a growing set of more capable Galaxy AI features.

The Galaxy S26 series is just around the corner and might make a good upgrade option. Samsung will announce the S26 trio later this month.
