A few days ago, Samsung released the September 2023 security update to the Galaxy S20 in Europe. Now, the new security has reached the US shores, with the carrier-unlocked models getting the first dibs on it. The carrier-locked models could soon get the new update as well.

Galaxy S20 September 2023 security update: What's new?

The newest software update for the factory-unlocked versions of Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra comes bearing firmware version G98xU1UES7HWI1 in the US. The new update includes the September 2023 security patch, and it fixes over 60 security flaws found in the previous software version. Since it is just a security update, it doesn't bring any new features or performance improvements to the phones.

If you have a Galaxy S20 series phone and live in the US, you can get the new update if your phone is factory-unlocked. To install the update, navigate to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 in early 2020 with Android 10 onboard. The phones in the lineup received the Android 11 update in late 202o, the Android 12 update in late 2021, and the Android 13 update in late 20222. It won't get the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update.
