Samsung’s excellent Camera Assistant app coming to Galaxy A phones with One UI 6.0

Samsung's regular Camera app that we all use to capture pictures and video is full of neat features and modes, and in the last year or so, Samsung has been extending camera features and camera customization on flagship phones to help users get more creative.

Samsung introduced the Expert RAW app in late 2021 for advanced users, and eventually introduced it to other flagship phones going all the way back to the Galaxy S20 series. The company then followed up with the Camera Assistant app, which brought a number of options that let you customize the behaviour of the regular Camera app in certain scenarios.

However, while Expert RAW and Camera Assistant are excellent apps, both are exclusive to Samsung's flagship phones. But it seems the Android 14 and One UI 6.0 update will end that exclusivity, at least for Camera Assistant.

According to a Samsung community moderator, the company is working on bringing support for Camera Assistant to Galaxy A smartphones in the later half of the year “at the time of One UI change”. One UI 6.0 is not explicitly mentioned, but that is no doubt what we're supposed to take away here as One UI 5.1.1 will mostly be limited to Samsung's foldables.

A list of all the Galaxy A phones that will get Camera Assistant support has not been revealed either. However, expect it to be exclusive to devices like the Galaxy A53, Galaxy A54, and Galaxy A73 for some time before Samsung decides to include more mid-range devices.

We can also expect Camera Assistant to have almost all of its options enabled on Galaxy A series phones. Some of them include the ability to turn off auto HDR capture, decide whether the camera focuses on faster capture or better post-processing, force the camera to capture multiple photos when a timer is set (very useful when you're taking selfies), and more.

One of the most impressive characteristics of the new Samsung Galaxy A55 is that it has an option for 12GB of RAM — at least in some markets. That's very unlike Samsung's mid-range phones, and it is mighty impressive considering that even more expensive devices, such as the base Galaxy S24, are missing out on […]

Don’t worry, you can keep using the Galaxy A53 for a few more years

Your Galaxy A53 is starting to show its age. That's undeniable, given that even the new Galaxy A35 — a phone from an inferior line — beats the Galaxy A53 in at least five key areas. We often talk about reasons to upgrade, as we are constantly dealing with newer mobile technologies. But we're also […]
