Just three months after Samsung unveiled its first tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, reports emerged claiming that the company had already begun developing its successor, expected to arrive as the Galaxy Z TriFold 2. The report also suggested that the upcoming device could feature a slimmer design, while another leak pointed to a newer and thinner hinge mechanism. Beyond that, however, very little was known about the phone. That is now beginning to change.
Saskaituisrasymas and xleaks7 (David Kowalski) have shared images based on Samsung’s patent for a tri-fold smartphone, which they claim could be the Galaxy Z TriFold 2. As you can see in these renders below, the device appears to house the S Pen within one of its two hinges, a feature many users have long been asking for. Reportedly, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 could use magnets to securely hold the stylus in place, detect whether it is inserted or removed, and even charge it while stored.

However, integrating an S Pen slot into the hinge could result in one of the phone’s three sections being shorter than the others, leading to an asymmetrical design that some users may not appreciate.

That said, it is worth noting that Samsung files many patents that never make it to commercial products, so there is no guarantee that this design will actually be used in the final device.
