Earlier this year, General Motors (GM) announced that it would not offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the company’s upcoming electric vehicles (EVs). Back then, the brand had hinted that it was taking this step to accelerate subscription services. A couple of days ago, however, the company stated that it was taking this step because of safety. Whatever the reason, GM is dropping Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and people are unhappy with it. Ford, on the other hand, is doing the opposite.
The CEO of Ford, Jim Farley, has announced in a post on Threads that the company “is committed to keeping Apple CarPlay & Android Auto”. Contrary to what GM believes, Jim suggested that phone projection increases safety. “@Ford customers love the features because they help keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. We work closely with Apple & Google to create a very high-quality experience for customers. And I think we have the best experience out there with SYNC 4A,” he added.
Most people want Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in their cars, and that's why, they prefer models that have these features over the ones that don’t. While GM's decision could push people away from the brand, Ford’s statement could do the exact opposite and bring in more sales.
