Blizzard has announced the first expansion pack for the CRPG game Diablo 4. It's called Vessel of Hatred, and the company says it will bring a brand new class “never seen before in the Diablo universe.”

The first Diablo 4 expansion pack will also allow players to hack & slash their way through hoards of demonic creatures in a new region called Nahantu. Blizzard says players will “travel to the lush jungles known by the locals as Nahantu.”

Bringing back Kurast memories

As to how the campaign and player story will progress in the Vessel of Hatred, it appears to be a continuation of the Diablo 4's dark tale. Blizzard says the expansion “brings players back to learn the fate of the prime evil Mephisto and his demonic plans for Sanctuary” (via Game Informer).

Blizzard revealed the announcement trailer for Vessel of Hatred, which you can watch below.

Diablo 4 players will have to wait a while longer before they can try out the new class and slay new evils in the jungles of Nahantu. They won't learn more about Mephisto's fate until later in 2024.

Blizzard says the Vessel of Hatred expansion pack is planned for release in the later part of next year. However, the company hopes to share more details next summer.

For now, long-time Diablo fans are already drawing parallels between Mephisto's jungle and Kurast from Diablo 2's Act III and Nahantu in Vessel of Hatred. Exactly how or if all this will be related remains to be seen.
