After acknowledging the presence of the Exynos 1080 chipset last month, Samsung fully unveiled it today during an event in China. The new premium mid-range smartphone processor from the company has all the modern features one could think of, and it will debut inside a Vivo smartphone.

The Exynos 1080 is built using Samsung's 5nm EUV process, so it is extremely power-efficient. It uses four ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores, and one of those cores is clocked at 2.8GHz. The remaining three Cortex-A78 cores are clocked at 2.6GHz. There are four Cortex-A55 CPU cores which run at 2GHz and handle light tasks. Samsung claimed during the event that the single-core performance would see a 50% jump over previous-generation processors, while multi-core performance will likely see a 2x jump.

The SoC also features the Mali-G78 MP10 GPU, which could deliver performance that's similar to the Exynos 990 that's used inside the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The GPU also supports Full HD+ displays with a 144Hz refresh rate or QHD+ displays with a 90Hz refresh rate. The company is also using a power-saving solution called Amigo, which monitors the performance loads and increases power efficiency by up to 10%.  The ISP supports up to 200MP cameras (or 32MP+32MP at the same time) and up to 4K 60fps and HDR10+ video recording.

The integrated NPU inside the Exynos 1080 can reach up to 5.7 TOPS of performance. The chipset also supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage chips. There's an integrated 5G modem, too, and it supports both sub-6GHz (3.67Gbps) and mmWave (5.1Gbps) networks. Other features of the new processor include GPS, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, and supports a USB Type-C port. Samsung has announced that it will first be used in a flagship Vivo smartphone early next year.
