Diablo 4 players are donating real blood for in-game items and a PC

Video game company Activision-Blizzard is out for blood, and that's no idiom. The company launched a highly unusual sweepstakes around its CRPG game, Diablo 4. The developer is encouraging Diablo 4 players in the USA to donate blood at a clinic of their choice, and in return, Blizzard is willing to give away in-game items and a gaming PC.

Here's the (other) kicker: The gaming PC has a custom liquid cooling system, which Blizzard says is “infused with real human blood.”

The event's name, “Blood Harvest,” couldn't be more appropriate. It fits the theme of Diablo 4, the time of year – since we're days away from Halloween 2023 – and the event's overarching goal. That goal, in case it wasn't clear enough, is to encourage gamers to donate blood (via VGC).

Story continues after the video

Donate blood in real life for items in Diablo 4 (and a chance at a real PC)

The Blood Harvest sweepstake event is driven by blood donations. USA-based Diablo 4 players can submit proof of their blood donation and help the sweepstake through its three tiers.

The first tier, which has already been topped as of this writing, unlocks in-game weapons for all players. Similarly, if tiers 2 and 3 are unlocked, Diablo 4 players will get a Loch Raeth Maor armor for Barbarians (tier 2) and a Vermillion Eye Piebald mount (tier 3).

The big incentive is the blood-infused Windows PC, which becomes available as a prize if the grand total of 666 quarts (630 liters) of blood gets donated by Diablo 4 players in the USA. At that point, the grand prize is unlocked and anyone can participate in the sweepstake via Instagram or X (formerly Twitter), regardless of whether or not they have donated blood.

Exactly how the custom liquid cooler is infused with real human blood is unclear, but the PC is based on an Intel Core i9-13900K CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and 3TB of NVMe M.2 SSD storage.
