Some changes are coming to Samsung SmartThings' integration with Sonos

If you use Sonos devices and control them using the SmartThings app, you may have to make some changes to the integration of those services, depending on whether you opted in for authentication on the Sonos app. Samsung announced those changes on its SmartThings blog.

Authentication mey be needed to link your Sonos and SmartThings accounts

Samsung has announced that users may need to follow some steps if they are using Sonos' audio products via the SmartThings app. Due to the European Union's (EU) new Radio Equipment Directive (RED) regulations, Sonos has introduced a new feature that allows users to require authentication for third-party control integrations. This is an additional security measure that users may opt in to use.

So, if you opt in to use the authentication feature in the Sonos app, you need to link your Sonos account to your SmartThings account by logging into those services. If you don't connect the accounts, the Sonos app will send you a notification to remind you of the same. However, if you haven't opted into use authentication, you don't need to do anything.

If you use a SmartThings Hub that is very old and is in its End Of Life (EOL) phase, Samsung recommends not to opt into Sonos authentication, as you will lose Sonos integration and won't be able to control those audio devices going forward.

How to link SmartThings and Sonos accounts?

Open the SmartThings app on your phone and log into your SmartThings account.

Tap the + icon on the top right corner and then tap Add Device.

Now, search for Sonos in the search bar and tap Link Account.

Sign into your Sonos account by filling in your credentials.

Now, authorize SmartThings to access your Sonos devices and account information.
