Benchmark confirms Qualcomm chip for Galaxy Z Fold 6 everywhere

Following rumors that Samsung will stick to a one-chip strategy for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, we've just received further confirmation that this will be the case. The international Galaxy Z Fold 6 has just shown up in the online benchmark Geekbench, rocking the same hardware configuration as the US variant.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 for the USA, featuring model number SM-F956U, got benchmarked earlier this month. That was the first time we saw the Galaxy Z Fold 6 online, and early benchmark results didn't disappoint.

Now, the international version, which Samsung will release across Europe and other countries around the globe, has popped up in the same online benchmark, where it rocks model number SM-F956B.

Don't get thrown off by the benchmark scores

Unsurprisingly, the international Galaxy Z Fold 6 runs Android 14 and sports the same “pineapple” motherboard and “walt” governor, which means it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

The newly tested version also has 12GB of RAM, just like the previous one, which more or less confirms that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a minimum of 12GB of memory.

One unusual detail about this new Geekbench entry for the SM-F956B is the benchmark score. The international model yielded considerably lower scores than the US version: roughly 500 fewer points in single-core tests and nearly 50% less in multi-core.

Story continues after the video…

Don't let this benchmark score gap throw you off. This is nothing unusual for pre-release devices, which is why we often say that benchmark scores, particularly for unreleased phones, don't mean much. Any number of things could have affected these scores, and they clearly don't reflect the Qualcomm chip's performance.

Had the international Galaxy Z Fold 6 been powered by Exynos, many people in the Android community would be in an uproar right about now regarding this huge performance gap between Snapdragon and Exynos.

Rest assured, this is merely an early testing fluke. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on the international Galaxy Z Fold 6 should perform about the same as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips employed by the US model and the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
