It has been rumored for the longest time that Apple is going to launch a MacBook Pro with an OLED display panel. Rumors have also suggested that Samsung Display will supply these OLED panels.

According to a new report Apple is likely going to launch this redesigned MacBook Pro. which brings several major changes, later this year.

Samsung might be the only supplier of these OLED panels

This redesigned MacBook Pro reportedly features Apple's M6 chip and an OLED panel from Samsung Display. There are conflicting rumors about this being a touchscreen panel, though some rumors claim that the touchscreen capability will only be available on the M6 Pro and Max models.

Reports out of South Korea suggest that Samsung Display will begin mass production of its 8th-generation OLED panels from May this year. This would be the first mass production of 8th-generation OLED panels in the world.

The company is reportedly producing the panels in two sizes, 14-inch and 16-inch, which gives an idea of what display sizes Apple will offer the new MacBook Pro in. Samsung Display is expecting to ship 2 million OLED panels for these notebooks by the end of this year.

Samsung Display is believed to be the sole supplier of OLED panels for Apple's first OLED MacBook Pro. China's BOE is trying to get in the mix as well, but it remains to be seen if it can meet Apple's stringent requirements for what will arguably be one of the most significant upgrades to the MacBook Pro line in years.
