Apple likely to dethrone Samsung as the world's biggest smartphone brand

Samsung will no longer be the world's biggest smartphone brand this year, if a new market analysis report is to be believed. The South Korean firm is likely to be dethroned by Apple. If this prediction turns out to be true, it won't look good for Samsung.

The iPhone 17 series, which was released in September of this year, has been a major hit. Bloomberg reports that a research note from Counterpoint Research says Apple is set to grow at 10% this year. In comparison, Samsung is expected to grow at just 4.6%, while the overall smartphone market is set to grow at 3.3%. Apple is set to capture a 19.4% share of the global market.

Millions have upgraded from their older iPhones to the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Even Android users seem to be switching to iPhones, thanks to their aspirational value and consistent performance. As a result, Apple has seen double-digit growth in important markets like China and the US. It is also reported that Apple will likely continue its lead until 2029.

Over the past few years, the South Korean firm has relied more on software improvements rather than hardware upgrades to sell its newer phones. Apple, on the other hand, has continued to bring breakthrough innovations in chipset performance and ecosystem features.

Apple has managed to maintain the $799 price tag for its base iPhone 17 model while bringing major hardware upgrades, including a high-refresh-rate display, an anti-reflective display, a brand-new front-facing camera sensor, faster charging, and a bigger battery.

Samsung will have to work a lot harder if it wants to get back its smartphone crown in the coming years. It needs to bring faster performance in low-end and mid-range phones, better camera hardware in high-end devices, and bigger batteries across its smartphone range.
