Several reports claim that Apple’s first foldable iPhone will feature a book-style design, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, the company may also be working on another foldable form factor. Apple is reportedly exploring a clamshell-style foldable iPhone, comparable to the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
A report from Bloomberg claims that Apple is considering the development of a clamshell-style foldable iPhone with a square aspect ratio. The device is still in the early consideration phase, and there is no guarantee that Apple will move forward with a launch. Reportedly, the company is confident in its book-style foldable iPhone and believes it could generate enough interest to justify foldable iPhones in additional shapes and sizes.
Apple has been releasing iPhones in multiple sizes for more than a decade, and demand has remained strong across most models, from base variants to Pro Max versions. Similarly, the company expects there to be sufficient demand for both book-style and clamshell-style foldable iPhones in the future.
The first foldable iPhone is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch foldable inner display with crease-less design. It could have a dual-camera setup, an under-display inner selfie camera, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and a 5,500mAh battery. It could launch in the second half of 2026 and compete with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its wider variant.
