It has been over four years since the launch of the Galaxy Watch 4 series, and most users were doubtful if it would get the One UI 8 Watch update. However, Samsung surprised everyone by confirming that it would. Last week, the update was released for the Bluetooth-only variants of the Galaxy Watch 4 40mm and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic's 42mm and 46mm variants.
The company excluded the 44mm version of the Galaxy Watch 4 and the LTE variants of both models in some Asian countries.
Yesterday, Samsung released two back-to-back updates for the 44mm Bluetooth-only version of the Galaxy Watch 4 in India. The first update (firmware version IYI4) brought the August 2025 security patch to the wearable, and it had a file size of around 142MB. The second update (firmware version JYK4) brought the Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch update and had a 1.7GB file size.
If you have the Bluetooth-only version of the Galaxy Watch 4 and live in India, you can check for the update on your smartwatch by heading to Settings > Software update and tapping Download and install. Once the update has been downloaded, you can start the installation process by tapping the Install now button.
The One UI 8 Watch update rollout has been problematic for the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Several Galaxy Watch 4 Classic users are reporting that their smartwatches are either feeling very sluggish or their sensors aren't working properly. Some Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic users have complained about higher battery drain after updating their devices.
Hopefully, Samsung will fix those issues with a future software update. Going forward, Samsung will not release major One UI updates for the Galaxy Watch 4 series.
