82 million US allergy sufferers will appreciate this Samsung feature

According to some estimates, there are more than 82 million people in the United States that suffer year-round allergies.

Around 20 million of them suffer pollen allergies. Those among them who own a Galaxy device will appreciate the fact that Samsung's native Weather app offers pollen tracking information at a single glance.

Samsung updated its Weather app with One UI 8.0 last year and added a pollen index. This feature was then taken away, with users having to wait until it was likely brought back with the One UI 8.5 update. Fortunately, Samsung didn't make users wait until then, and the pollen index was quietly brought back through an update for the Weather app.

The pollen index inside the Weather app measures Tree, Grass, and Ragweed pollen, with each having its separate indicator. It surfaces local data, not the regional averages, which is meaningfully different when you live near a park or in a part of the country where one pollen type dominates. Tapping on the index opens a Weather Channel page with further information.

This is a very useful feature for those who live with these allergies. It's a routine for them to check the weather before leaving the house, so that they can decide whether they need to take an antihistamine before they go out for the day.
