Samsung takes a subtle jab at the iPhone once again in latest ad

Samsung has a long history of mocking iPhones in its Galaxy smartphone adverts. It’s a marketing strategy that seems to have worked well for Samsung as the message it has tried to convey has resonated with its base, particularly in key markets where the iPhone rides on customer loyalty.

Continuing its tradition, Samsung has released a new ad mocking the iPhones once again. The new ad titled ‘Moving On' comes six months after Samsung released the ‘Growing Up' advert at the time of the release of the iPhone X. The ‘Growing Up' ad gained a good amount of traction online for its fairly accurate depiction of iPhone users settling for older technologies even though there are better options available in the market.

Aimed at users with older iPhones

The new ad follows a similar theme by showing the troubles iPhone 6 users go through, which Samsung believes can be avoided by upgrading to the latest Galaxy flagship smartphone. The ad shows a woman going on a trip who struggles with the slow performance and bad battery life of her iPhone 6 throughout the journey. It is a not-so-subtle jab at the controversy (nicknamed ‘Batterygate’) about Apple intentionally slowing down older iPhones with low-capacity batteries.

The notch hair-cut guy who made a brief but lasting impression in the previous advert makes an appearance again, but this time along with his son who also sports the same haircut. The ad ends with the lead character ditching her old iPhone and upgrading to the Galaxy S9+, as advised by her Galaxy-loving mother. By comparing a four-year-old iPhone with the latest Galaxy flagship, the ad seems to be focusing on pushing users with older iPhones to upgrade to the latest Galaxy flagships.
