T-Mobile to distribute Nougat update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge "this week"

T-Mobile's “gadget guy” Des Smith has revealed that the carrier will distribute the long-awaited Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in the US later this week. This news comes more than a month three months after the upgrade first started making the rounds for the handsets.

In addition to a multitude of bug fixes, speed optimizations, and stability improvements, the upgrade is believed to bundle all of the stock features baked into Android 7.0, including enhanced notifications, improved application permissions and a drastically revamped user interface.

For those in need of a refresher, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge were first released back in April, 2015. They sport a 5.1-inch display, an Exynos 7420 Octa CPU, 3GB of RAM, a 16MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing shooter and a 2,550/2,600mAh non-removable battery.

The sad news is, Nougat is probably the last major firmware update the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will receive. Since they first hit the shelves running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, they've received two updates — Android 6.0 Marshmallow and now Android 7.0 Nougat.
