Samsung reportedly can’t make enough OLED panels for the next iPhone

It has long been rumored that Apple is going to finally shift to OLED displays for the iPhone. These rumors are circulating once again because it's expected that next year's iPhone will be a big update seeing that it's also the handset's 10th anniversary. Whenever OLED displays are mentioned for the iPhone it's said that Samsung will be one of the suppliers given the fact that it has a major footing in the OLED display market. Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reports that Samsung may not be able to make enough OLED panels for next year's iPhone.

Samsung and other OLED display suppliers like LG, Japan Display and Sharp are all expected to face production capacity issues continuing into 2018. Samsung is said to be the sole supplier of OLED displays for the next iPhone and the scribe suggests that the company may not be able to make enough panels for the iPhone as it may find it hard to balance low yield rates with rising demand for Apple's flagship smartphone. This is why the rumor mill is now suggesting that Apple may only use OLED displays in just one variant of the next iPhone. Samsung may remain the only supplier as the scribe claims that Apple and Samsung have an exclusive OLED supply deal for 2017. It's also claimed that the OLED panels ordered by Apple as part of this deal are larger than 5-inches.

What this basically means is that Apple will be fully reliant on Samsung to provide OLED displays for the next-generation iPhone. If supply constraints increase for the company then Apple might find itself without another supplier to shift orders to. Obviously there's no confirmation of any of this as yet, both companies declined to comment on the scribe's report.
