Rogers latest update brings Wi-Fi Calling to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge

Canada's largest wireless carrier, Rogers, has today started distributing a rather nifty update for its carrier-branded variants of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. The upgrade, which weighs in at approximately 260MB, bundles support for Android's integrated Wi-Fi Calling functionality, in addition to a host of miscellaneous big fixes, stability improvements, and speed optimizations.

For those unaware of Wi-Fi Calling, it's an extremely useful feature that was first baked into Android 5.1 Lollipop back in November 2015. When a smartphone has poor cellular reception and a voice call is placed, it automatically uses a nearby Wi-Fi network to improve the quality of the call without dipping into a customer's data pool, so the minutes are still subtracted from their allocated monthly limit.

If you own a Rogers-branded Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, reside in Canada and would like to install the update, simply head into Settings » About Device, then tap the Download Updates Manually button. Alternatively, you can wait until you receive a push notification prompting you to download and install the update from Samsung’s servers, but you’ll only receive this alert if you have at least 50% of battery.
