Samsung has released the Smart UX SDK on its developer website yesterday, using which, developers can create apps for its high-end printers. Generally, managing and using multi-function printers is an annoying job, but Samsung is hoping to change that using apps on 10.1-inch Android-powered tablets, which are integrated in its MultiXpress and ProXpress lineup of multi-funciton printers.

Samsung has created some apps, including Mobile Print, which facilitates in printing documents directly from cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, and OneDrive. So far, Hancom is the only company, besides Samsung to create an app using the newly released SDK. Using Hancom’s office app, users can edit office files and documents directly on the printer without having to go back to their desktops or laptops to correct small mistakes.

Using the SDK, developers can access printer functions such as printing, scanning, copying, device settings, authentication, and job management. The Korean electronics giant hopes that in-house enterprises developers, system integrators, independent software developers, and resellers will build Android apps for its printers. Hopefully, it will be easier for Samsung to convince developers to make apps for its printers when compared to its Tizen platform.
