North America's largest carrier is now taking pre-orders for Samsung's 2014 flagship, the Galaxy S5. The phone is priced at $199 on a two-year contract and $599 outright, and pre-orders will begin shipping on April 11, the same day the phone will make its global debut. Verizon is also running its BOGO (buy one, get one free) deal for the S5 – those that purchase the phone on-contract will get another phone for free (also on a two-year contract), with the option from choosing another Galaxy S5 or Samsung's newest Windows Phone handset, the ATIV SE, though you'll have to order one right now to take advantage of the deal.
The specs are the same as the Galaxy S5 being sold by other carriers – there's a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display of 1080p resolution, a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16-megapixel camera, 16GB of storage and a microSD slot, Wi-Fi, HSPA+, LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC connectivity, and a 2,800 mAh battery. It runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat with an improved version of Samsung’s custom UI, and comes with unique features like a fingerprint sensor, heart rate monitor, Ultra Power Saving Mode for extended battery life, and a faux leather back cover that’s designed to give users a firmer and more comfortable grip.
