The research was funded by Korea’s Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) and through its partnership with the university, the researchers were able to synthesize large-area graphene into a single crystal on a semiconductor while maintaining its electric and mechanical properties. Graphene is said to be superior to silicon that offers greater electron mobility than silicon and is more durable than steel along with high heat conductibility and flexibility.
“This is one of the most significant breakthroughs in graphene research in history,” said the laboratory leaders at SAIT’s Lab. “We expect this discovery to accelerate the commercialization of graphene, which could unlock the next era of consumer electronic technology.”
Samsung will publish the result of this research in the April 4 issue of Science Magazine and ScienceExpress.
