Galaxy S4 gets a price cut in India, now available for Rs. 30,000

In a bid to boost sales of the Galaxy S4 before its successor hits Indian shores, Samsung has slashed prices of the device. The Galaxy S4 is now available at just Rs. 30,000 ($500), which is Rs. 1,000 higher than the 16 GB version of the Nexus 5. The price cut is huge considering that the Galaxy S4 debuted at Rs. 41,000 in India. Currently, the device can be bought at various e-commerce stores in the country for as low as Rs. 29,199. There isn’t a handset available in India that offers the same set of features as the Galaxy S4 at this price segment.

However, all might not be well for Samsung in India. A recent survey indicated that the South Korean manufacturer is seeing waning interest in its mid-tier and high-end devices in the country even after being the market leader by a huge margin. More than half of its revenues are said to come from its entry-level offerings, and they are also under threat from local manufacturers like Micromax and Karbonn. With the Galaxy S5 set to launch in the country in just over a month, it remains to be seen whether Samsung can generate enough user interest in the device.
