US-unlocked Galaxy Note 20 gets November security patch before One UI 5

The US-unlocked Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are getting a new firmware update. Good news, but don't get your hopes up too much, as this isn't the highly anticipated Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update. Rather, Samsung is now rolling out the November 2022 security patch for the US-unlocked Galaxy Note 20 series.

The update carries firmware version N98xU1UES3FVJ1, and as you can probably tell by that letter and number arrangement, this is just a security patch. No new features have been added through this update, even though Samsung has already released One UI 5.0 for the Galaxy Note 20 lineup in other markets.

We're guessing that the USA-bound unlocked Galaxy Note 20 duo will receive Android 13 and One UI 5.0 relatively soon. But you can never be too sure. In any case, Galaxy Note 20 users are getting improved security through this new firmware update, and that surely counts for something. The November 2022 security patch addresses 46 vulnerabilities, of which three have been marked as “critical.”

Until One UI 5.0 arrives, Galaxy Note 20 users in the USA should be able to download and install the November 2022 security patch once they receive a notification or by opening the Settings app on their phones, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” Note 20 users who may want to bypass this and manually install the November 2022 update can download the official firmware files from our website and use the Odin PC tool.
