TL;DR

  • Android Auto users on phones running Android 10 are now seeing warnings that support will end soon.
  • Google appears to be raising the minimum Android Auto requirement to Android 11, after previously dropping Android 8 and 9.
  • Older Samsung Galaxy models that stopped at Android 10, including the S9, Note 9, A50, and A80, may lose access.

Google's Android Auto platform enables you to access your mobile device's functionality through the infotainment display in your car.

Samsung's Galaxy devices have offered this feature for years, but it appears that at least some of its devices may now be at the end of the road for Android Auto support.

According to reports, Android Auto users with a device running Android 10 have now started receiving notifications that claim their devices will no longer support Android Auto soon.

This suggests that Google may be set to increase the minimum OS version requirement for Android Auto. It previously ended support for Android 8 in 2022 and Android 9 in 2024. Two years later, Android 10 now looks set to be dropped with Android 11 becoming the minimum OS required to access Android Auto.

The notification is displayed when an Android 10 device is hooked up to Android Auto. It warns users that their “Phone will no longer be supported.” There's no final cutoff date as yet, so users may be able to access the feature for some time before it's taken away for good.

Several popular Samsung Galaxy devices topped out at Android 10. This includes the Galaxy S9 series, Galaxy Note 9 series, Galaxy A50, Galaxy A80, and many more.

Anyone who's still holding on to these devices and relies on Android Auto will now need to upgrade their phone to one that runs Android 11 at the very least.
